Further to my letter regarding the withdrawal of the 813 bus service from Harbottle to Alnwick at the end of September, the parish councils have had confirmation that if they provide a community transport alternative, the elderly will not be allowed to use their bus passes.
They will have to pay the full fare.
The excuses are that the community service is not a legitimate service and therefore does not qualify.
Not only is the county council abolishing the subsidy, which must be enormous when compared with the amount paid to the area last year, but it is refusing to honour the national scheme to provide free transport to the elderly.
It is about time this morally bankrupt liberal administration stopped cutting the legal income to the deprived rural areas, looked to their consciences and rethought their policies.
