ONE of the most used expressions that I’ve heard during the recent strike is something like: “When I joined some 25 years ago I was promised a pension. I don’t see why I should take less now just because the Government etc etc.”

Well, I’m quite sure that the trustees or the Government would agree to the same pension that was planned 25 years ago.

The trouble is that it would stop completely when the individual reached about 75 and provide nothing thereafter.

We are all living longer and today’s pensions are different from those promised years ago.
