It may be time to get a cat

With all the hype over animal poo littering our streets and public places, it got me thinking about another animal which likes to leave mess closer to home. Yes, I am talking about birds.

Don’t get me wrong, we are animal lovers through and through and extended members of the family owned an avian many moons ago for a good number of years.

But what annoys me is the piles of poo that birds like to leave on my car. If it’s your own pet, in your own back yard, then it isn’t a problem.

But it is considerably frustrating when you, or your child, stumble upon a nasty pile of bird poo when tending the bodywork.

I am sick and tired of having to wipe it off the paint and dispose of it. And not only that they strut around and fly about, they climb on to and sit on top of your car leaving nice little scratches on the roof from their sharp talons.

I am all for animals, I think they are great, and birds are lovely gracious animals. But please, can’t someone control where they roam?

I am sure I am not the only one who gets annoyed when I have to clean up excrement from the birds.

It is not only the nuisance of cleaning it up. Bird poo can carry infectious diseases such as cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis and psittacosis which cause nasty symptoms.

So what can we do about it?

Of course it’s cruel to trap these animals and I would never try to do that but there are natural ways of trying to keep them away, not that they all work. I am going to get a cat.
