Give cyclists some respect

It’s that time of the year when it’s colder and darker. There’s so much to do in preparation for Christmas, everyone is busy and understandably wants to get everywhere in a hurry.

The daily commute is all that more time consuming after demisting and scraping the car and the last thing that anyone wants is a lengthy car journey home stuck in traffic. There are so many things to be aware of.

However, please, please take extra awareness for the cyclists.

I am a cyclist and have a right to use the roads and a right to safety and have recently had some near misses with cars.

Please take extra time to look for us at junctions, give me extra space on the roads and consider the fragility of a metal bike and person which could easily be crushed under a car. Be extra vigilant for us.

If you could just give me a bit more of your time in consideration then perhaps I can still enjoy the rest of my time here.

I know I may be a nuisance but I pay my road tax too, it’s just that I make a decision to leave my car at home.

That means one less car for you to wait for at the lights.

By cycling I’m pumping less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and causing less damage to the planet. By living a more healthy life style I’m going to be less of a burden to the tax payer in later life. I wear bright clothing and have bright lights and follow all the rules of the road.

So please respect me on the road and give me extra time and we’ll all be happy and alive together.
