Disappointed by experience

I am writing to let you know how disappointed me and my family were with our shopping experience on Saturday, December 7.

We are local people who have lived and worked in Alnwick for years.

For a start we tried to purchase a raffle ticket at one of the shops and were turned away to be told that I would have to purchase something in order to get one.

This does not make sense to me as the shop owner was refusing to take my money. I would have paid around £5 for the ticket as the winning prize was a decent cushion.

My thoughts are if you purchased something then you get a free ticket, that’s fine, but if you don’t, you pay for it. Where was the common sense?

Second trip we went to a shop offering a loyalty card.

We did buy something but were told we could not get the card as we had not spent £10 or more.

We have shopped there for 10 years and spent a lot of money.

Why didn’t they just give us the card for future purchases, it did not need to be stamped at all but the idea of just getting one for being loyal for 10 years would have made sense.

Also the market was not as good as last year.

The reason, we do know, is that the price for a stall is expensive.

Why can’t the stalls be a bit cheaper for the Christmas market, as they would get more people wanting to sell their goods?

The other shops were OK but a lot agreed that five per cent off something is a waste of time.

I know that something is better that nothing but if they want the business, they need to do better than that.

In our opinion House and Home offered the best deals plus a glass of mulled wine. They are the ones with the business savvy.

Other businesses, please do not take offence as we did not go to any more.

Hoping to have a better experience next year.
