Demands are a joke

RE Taxpayers ‘bullied’ by court demands – appalling, no not the taxpayers, the council.

Steven Mason, Northumberland County Council’s corporate director of finance, should realise that council tax is an annual tax irrespective of how it is paid.

Therefore, anyone who opts to pay over 10 months, is actually paying one and one fifths of a month’s tax at any one time.

This means that each month the payer is one fifth of a month in advance, so anyone having paid up to September has actually paid up to November 6, in advance.

It’s about time these jokers concentrated on the people who have no intention of paying instead of harassing people who do.
