CHARITY: Don’t forget local causes

As society becomes ever more dependent on charitable organisations we are encouraged, through our letter box, through the TV and other media to give generously to national and international organisations. But let’s not forget our local charities.

My family has recently benefitted greatly from such a charity and it made what was a difficult time more bearable and less stressful.

I am talking about the Seahouses and District Cancer Research and Relief Fund.

This is a long standing registered charity, run by local people who tirelessly fundraise to make sure that we get support when we need it.

For us, the most important thing is that it provides patients with individual transport to hospital to receive long-term daily treatment.

What is affectionately known locally as ‘the cancer car’ has supported many local people to tackle the daily trip to Newcastle for often as long as eight weeks. It certainly made a huge difference to us. The drivers were tremendous and couldn’t have done more to make the daily trip more positive.

How lucky we are to have such support thanks to those who give generously to a local charity.
