Benefits of help and support

Congratulations to the winners of Age UK best home care attendants, well deserved.

Not all service users are able to nominate their carers, but I know that I nominated my husband’s Monday to Friday carer, Gordon Matthewson.

Every morning a cheerful Gordon arrives with a positive attitude, to help Kit get up, showered and dressed.

He also takes him out for three hours once a week.

It is only recently that we have experienced this Age UK service.

I would advise anyone who is hesitating to go ahead.

I have also personally benefited from joining the group of Carers Northumberland. There are regular meetings and excursions and I have found it a great boost.

Not being a natural joiner, I wrongly thought that meeting other carers might be a bit depressing. Quite the reverse.

It is not until you try something that you realise what a difference a bit of help and support can mean.
