Many readers of the Northumberland Gazette would have been surprised at the small area of Cambois recently winning the online vote, Best Beach in Northumberland.

I have to write we weren’t but we are really proud to have won it.

Readers of the Northumberland Gazette, Morpeth Herald, News Post Leader and Berwick Advertiser have awarded us this title.

Beating off the challenge of Druridge, Alnmouth, Newton, Blyth and Newbiggin amongst others, the residents have allowed fellow Northumbrians into their well-kept secret. Even though surrounded to the west by years of industry, generations of residents have been able to enjoy the 2.6 miles of soft sand stretching between the Wansbeck and Blyth rivers.

Now the secret is out, a warm, Cambois welcome is extended to those who wish to visit whether it be for the first or fiftieth time.

On behalf of a very proud community, thanks to all those who voted.

Alex Wallace,

East Bedlington Parish Council
