AWARDS: A magical atmosphere

With reference to your letter, (Northumberland Gazette, September 28), thank you Mr and Mrs Barrett, the Sunflower Challenge does, indeed, hold a special place in Alnwick in Bloom’s (AiB) heart.

AiB could hold its annual award presentation in the delightful events room at Alnwick Garden due to the Garden’s continuing and hugely appreciated generosity.

This traditional ceremony is one we look forward to each year where awards, certificates and prizes for local horticultural excellence are received by the winners.

There was a smaller attendance than we are used to, and we did have four apologies. Sadly these things happen.

We always hope our competitors will bring their families to celebrate the successes; the atmosphere really is magical.

For next year Trevor Jones has already kindly promised a guided tour around the garden after the ceremony and its photographs, so start planning now.

There’s the ever popular garden competition, including a category specially for children, the Sunflower Challenge and the Shop Windows Competition – something for all green thumbs.

Elizabeth Jones,

Chairman Alnwick in Bloom
