She said: “I am walking along Hadrian’s Wall with my mum Sue, and our friend called Mikey. We will walk as far as we can along the 84-mile route in six days, carrying our own kit and camping every night.

“If you would like to sponsor me I would be very grateful as it will help encourage me to walk even further.”

She has raised £790 so far, well on the way to her £840 target – £10 for every mile. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/poppy-rudgePoppy had already planned to do the walk prior to Sally’s passing. After hearing that Sally had died, Poppy said: “She was a most caring, dedicated teacher who had so much love to give. Sally, her family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Support in kind has been very kindly donated by Scott Gillie, of Border Villager Taxi, who provides school transport for Ford school, and who is taking the fund-raisers to the start at Bowness-on-Solway.

The Co-op in Coldstream will also be running a tombola and fund-raising during the week of the walk.
