A 14-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital at the weekend after suffering a neck injury while playing rugby.

At 6pm on Sunday, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the rugby club in Kielder where a 14-year-old player had suffered a neck injury during a tackle.

He was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led trauma team before being flown to Newcastle’s RVI.

Upon arrival, after a 17-minute flight, he was in a stable condition, but his injuries were described as serious.
