Young adults signed up to volunteer at the Alnwick Garden at a special open day last week.
The Garden has a dedicated team of volunteers, who assist with many aspects of the day-to-day running of The Alnwick Garden.
The Duchess of Northumberland has always been keen to encourage younger people to get involved in volunteering and so, in partnership with the Duchess’s Community High School, the Young Volunteers Programme was launched in 2012.
The programme enables young people to gain valuable practical experience as they work alongside staff and other volunteers.
The scheme is a fantastic way to improve their employability and adds value to their CV and each volunteer is presented with a certificate of participation and a glowing reference personally signed by the Duchess.
The Duchess said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Alnwick Garden, supporting staff across the board.
“I am particularly interested in the Young Volunteers and see this as a unique opportunity for them to work with the elderly and with children and to develop of sense of responsibility towards to their community.
“It is difficult for young people to get work experience nowadays and The Alnwick Garden offers a great opportunity to any motivated youngster in Northumberland to beef up their CVs.”
