Young gardeners are hoping for more summer sunshine as they nurture their plants for the Northumberland Gazette Sunflower Challenge.
There’s just a month to go until entries must be in for the annual competition.
The challenge is being run in association with Alnwick in Bloom, which provided the sunflower seeds, and is open to children aged 16 and under.
Plants should be reaching for the skies. When yours is fully grown and in bloom, take its picture and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or send it to Sunflower Challenge, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, NE66 1PN.
Entries must be received before August 31. Remember to include the name and age of the grower, the address where the sunflower is being grown, contact details and its measurement.
The winner will receive a £25 WHSmith voucher, second £15 and third £10. Five runners-up will each get a £5 voucher.
Awards will be presented at an Alnwick in Bloom prize-giving event later this year.
