A YACHT had to be towed by a lifeboat after it ran aground on rocks off the north Northumberland coast.
As members of the Seahouses lifeboat crew were preparing for their annual fund-raising day, they were alertedat around 5pm on Sunday to the 19-foot yacht Puddle Duck, stranded in Newton Bay.
The tide was falling and as the Craster coastguards had ensured the crew was safely to shore, the boat was left until later.
By 2am, the Seahouses inshore lifeboat, helped by Craster inshore lifeboat, had succeeded in pulling the yacht clear of the rocks and had it in tow.
Seahouses lifeboat arrived in the harbour with the yacht at 3.15am, after an uncomfortable passage in a very choppy sea.
