Both of Amble’s lifeboats were launched this afternoon to go the aid of a yacht at Alnmouth.
The Amble Coastguard team was alerted to the yacht with engine difficulty south of the river at Alnmouth.
A woman and a child were taken off the yacht at low tide and the owner stayed on board.
Amble RNLI said the yacht was aground and it was clear that, with the tide dropping, there was no way to re-float it.
The yacht was made secure and the lifeboat crew will re-launch around midnight tonight.
It is hoped it can be re-floated at high tide and the lifeboat will tow it during the early hours.
