World War One memorial website

A project set up to record every war memorial in the North East is hoping to collect more stories from the people of the region.

The North East War Memorials Project wants to set up a stall at events where visitors can share their stories and memories for its website.

The website – – features a host of information about war memorials, including lists of names of those featured on them and stories behind the names. It is being archived by the British Library.

* The Gazette website also has a special First World War section.

In it, you will find features on The Great War, covering the countdown to war, 1914–1916, the homefront, 1917–1918 and the Armistice.

There are also local tales of how the war impacted on Northumberland, in the From the Archive and Memories categories, and lists of names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, in Roll of Honour.
