Another community workshop is to be held to discuss plans for a new opencast site.
Banks Mining has run three previous events for residents, community groups and employers to feed their views into its proposals for surface mining at Highthorn, south east of Widdrington.
A planning application for the scheme is expected to be submitted later this year. If approved, operations would start in 2016, with restoration of the site scheduled to be completed within eight to 10 years.
So far, more than 270 people have attended the workshops, and now there will be another chance for them to get involved, with an event planned to take place at Lynemouth Miners’ Welfare Institute. The session will be held on Wednesday at 6.30pm.
Mark Dowdall, from Banks, said: “We’re pleased that so many people have come along to the workshops so far. The input is helping shape our plans.”
