Residents could get the chance to see for themselves the work being done to repair the Rothbury landslip, according to a local councillor.

The B6344 road at Crag End has been closed to all vehicles and pedestrians following a landslip that started on Boxing Day, 2012.

Workmen moved onto the site in February with the works due to be in full swing by the end of this month,as previously reported in the Gazette.

Rothbury’s county councillor Steven Bridgett said on his Facebook page that a number of residents had already expressed an interest in visiting the site.

“The council is looking to have a couple of site visits where residents can come and see the site first hand and the work being carried out.”

Coun Bridgett told the Gazette: “I am pleased to see that initial work has started on the site which has included the building of a new work compound and preparation of the ground.

“However, it will not be until towards the end of this month that we begin to see the site in full operation and at its peak the council are estimating the work will be costing in the region of £1million a month.”
