Phase one, 99 properties, was granted planning approval in December and Ascent Homes has started work on the family homes and bungalows.
Once completed, there will be 30 three-bedroom townhouses, 18 three-bedroom detached houses, 18 four-bedroom detached houses, 15 two-bedroom houses, 14 two-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom bungalows – 14 of this number will be affordable homes, which will be prioritised for local residents.
Ascent Homes acquired the site from Harworth Estates last year and it has exchanged contracts on the phase two land for an additional 85 properties to be built on the site.
They will also be a range of bungalows and two, three and four-bedroom properties.

In addition, there are proposals to provide a retail unit on the site.
Duncan Bowman, Ascent Homes development director, said: “Our aim is to offer an additional high-quality range of family houses and bungalows, adding a new dimension to the housing market in Northumberland.
“We are working very hard to develop the highest quality specifications for this historic site.”
The project is expected to employ up to 140 people in construction, providing new job or apprenticeship opportunities for local people and contracts for local suppliers.
