Wooler Parish Council round-up: Winter, crime, clock and Christmas

The main priority routes are Brewery Road, The Peth, Market Place, High Street, Padgepool Place, Church Street and along the A697 in the village centre. There are also secondary priority routes.

Chairman, Coun Robert Donkin, said: “If we push too far, we won’t get it.”

A grit bin cannot be moved into Fenton Grange after being told it would be better used on a hill/slope, not a flat area.

• PC Phil Jack reported on a number of crimes in Wooler in the past month, which included a break-in and damage at the empty Ryecroft Hotel; vehicles damaged in The Martins and Common Road; damage to the Scout Hut on Wooler Common; and a ‘set-to’ in The Angel pub.

• Coun Kevan Curry and new councillor, Brian Aitken, have agreed to help out with the village’s clock-winding duties. The clock in the church tower requires winding every six days and the previous volunteers are no longer available to do it for various reasons.

• Members were very happy to support the campaign to extend the platform at Belford Station so that trains can stop there. The council had received a letter from Belford Parish Council asking for Wooler to back the bid and all of the councillors agreed to support the efforts.

• Members agreed to co-opt Brian Aitken as a parish councillor to fill one of the vacancies. There is still one casual vacancy and anybody who is interested is asked to apply before the closing date of December 16. Contact 01668 216329 or [email protected]
