Wooler Parish Council round-up

Following concerns raised at the previous meeting, a letter was received from the club which questions the parish council’s ownership of the land in question despite the council registering it in 2008.

l Plans for the Party in the Park in Wooler to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday are coming together nicely.

Members were given an update on what will be happening at the event which will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 12, in Scott’s Park.

The Cub Scouts will be setting up a camp and showing people what they do, the boxing club will be doing a demonstration, there will be music, line-dancing and fancy-dress competitions.

People are invited to bring a picnic along on the afternoon, but there will be refreshments on offer too – teas, coffees, cakes and scones.

Due to the cost of hiring a bouncy castle and roundabout, it is likely that there will be a charge on the day to have a go, for example, £1.50.

Suggestions were made that the fire service or young firefighters and the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team could be invited to appear on the day.

l Coun Brian Patterson gave his backing to calls by a resident at last month’s meeting for signs to try to slow motorists in the Fenton Grange estate.

Coun Patterson had been working there and said he had seen for himself the number of delivery vehicles and the speed of traffic on the estate roads.

l Following a meeting with the county council officer responsible for helping with neighbourhood plans, Wooler Parish Council has agreed to push ahead. The next step is to set up a steering group with parish councillors and other community representatives.

l The new police officer on the Wooler neighbourhood team was unable to attend the meeting to meet councillors, but provided an update on the five incidents since the last meeting.

These included possession of cannabis, a minor assault and a threat to cause damage.
