It became a family affair when husband and wife team Mike and Pat Young took on the task of judging fellow Wooler and District Camera Club members’ entries at the club’s latest competition evening.
The competitions were for the Novices Cup (open) and the Andy Steele Rose Bowl (“On the Beach”).
The judges gave each entry a rounded appraisal from two points of view – technical excellence and emotional impact.
The Novices Cup attracted 25 very diverse entries and the results were as follows – John Miller and Michael Hall received Special Mentions and Pat Brown, Meg Burford and Tommy Rathbone were Highly Commended. Pat Brown was third and the second and first places were awarded to John Miller. His winning entry was an intriguing picture titled Whose Seat is this?
The 35 entries for “On the Beach” had everything from crowds to solitude and rocks to sandcastles. Special mention was made of the entries from Bryony Stimpson and Meg Vickers. Tommy Rathbone, Margaret Urwin and Patrick Sheard were highly commended, Peter Ayres was third, Charlie Brown came second and the first place was awarded to Patrick Sheard for his picture of galloping horses on the sands.
The next meeting of Wooler and District Camera Club will be on November 12th in the Glendale Hall, Cheviot Street, Wooler at 7.30pm when there will be a presentation “Travel” given by Jane Coltman and Laine Baker.
