Wooler and Embleton make headway in second division

On a day again spoilt by the weather, the whole of the North Northumberland League Division One programme was washed out due to waterlogged pitches.

Only two games were played in Division Two, with Wooler taking on Forresters and Embleton facing Ashington Central.

Divsion Two leaders Wooler got back to winning ways with a 4-2 win away to Forresters Bedlington, played in poor conditions at Peoples Park, Ashington.

The win sees Wooler retain top spot by a point from close rivals Embleton WR, who played in a second versus third fixture against Ashington Town Central and came home with a 3-2 victory from their away trip.

Goals from Tom Vickers and Jordan Turnbull saw Embleton into a 2-0 half time lead and when Colley added a third early in the second half Embleton appeared to be coasting to victory.

Unfortunately, the dismissal of two Embleton players and two penalties, scored by Taylor, saw Ashington come back into the game, but the nine men held on for a deserved victory.

Fixtures for saturday, February 20, are:

Division 1 - Tweedmouth Rangers v Bamburgh Castle; Belford v Alnwick Town Reserves ; Bedlington Breakers v North Sunderland ; Red Row Welfare v Amble St Cuthbert ; Rothbury v Lowick United.
