A WOMAN who was found dead near Morpeth on Thursday has been named.
Police have confirmed the body they recovered was that of 45-year-old Valerie Brown.
The A196 was closed for some time between Shadfen and Dunces Houses as officers investigated the scene, with local residents saying a police helicopter was hovering over fields between the two areas.
The body was discovered at 5.25pm and taken for a postmortem.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “The result of a postmortem was inconclusive and further tests are being carried out to determine the cause of death.
“However, police are not looking for any third party in connection with this death and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
Householders in Shadfen and Dunces Houses said police had knocked on their doors earlier in the week to ask if they had any information about Mrs Brown.
Until her body was found, she was last seen at about 3pm on Saturday, June 25 in Guide Post. Posters of her had been on display in Morpeth.
