Police are appealing for witnesses after a two-car collision in Northumberland on Saturday.

It happened at 12.10pm, approximately half-a-mile north of New Moor House crossroads. A Mercedes car was travelling south and a Land Rover was travelling north when, for reasons yet to be established, they collided.

A passenger in the Mercedes, a 20-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by the Great North Air Ambulance to the RVI in Newcastle, where she is still receiving treatment.

She arrived after a 12-minute flight in a stable condition, but with multiple serious injuries.

The road was closed for approximately four hours while the casualty was dealt with, the vehicles recovered and the scene examined by police.
