Witness appeal after Northumberland crash leaves three seriously hurt

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Northumberland which left three people seriously injured.

The A68 was closed for more than three hours after the accident at Old Town Crossroads, near Bellingham, yesterday afternoon.

The collision involved a silver Hyundai Tuscon, which had turned right to travel south on the A68, and a white Peugeot 207 car which was travelling north.

The Hyundai’s 83-year-old male driver and his 82-year-old woman passenger received serious injuries and were taken to the RVI in Newcastle.

The 35-year-old woman driver of the Peugeot suffered serious leg injuries and is also detained at the RVI.

The condition of all of those injured is described as poorly but stable.

The road was closed for three-and-a half-hours to allow the injured to be dealt with and the scene of the collision to be examined.
