Police are appealing for witnesses following a one-vehicle collision on the A69 in Northumberland earlier today.
It happened on the westbound carriageway between Haltwhistle and Haydon Bridge at 2.58am this morning (Friday, October 27).
It involved an Audi A3 car which, for reasons yet to be established, went off the road and struck a telegraph pole and wall. The car caught fire and the driver left the scene.
Emergency services attended and the A69 was closed in both directions with local diversions in place. The fire was extinguished and the road reopened at just after 8am after the scene had been examined and the vehicle and debris removed. Police searched the area, but no occupants of the vehicle were found.
Anyone with information is asked to contact motor patrols on 101, quoting reference no 74 of 27/10/17.
