The iconic tree which lights up Alnwick's Market Place was brought down with strong winds earlier this evening.
Speaking on Facebook, Coun Gordon Castle said that the tree had 'broken' in the wind and had to be brought down. This follows a bad weather warning earlier this afternoon.
The tree has been secured on the ground to make sure it isn't damaged further.
Coun Castle also said that 'many lights are broken and it will be a struggle to get it up again for Sunday if this wind persists, but we will try'.
