Who is red hot on the green scene across the county?

Developers behind Northumberland’s newest tourist attraction are keen to celebrate other ‘green’ businesses as part of the Northumberland Business Awards.

The Banks Group came up with the landform Northumberlandia as a way of giving back to the local community during its work on the Shotton opencast mine on the outskirts of Cramlington.

Now the firm is once again sponsoring the Green Business of the Year award.

Mark Dowdall, environment and community director at the Banks Group, said: “Every year, the Northumberland Business Awards provide a fantastic showcase for the many achievements of companies right across the county, and we’re very pleased to be supporting them once again.

“Our sponsorship of the awards’ Green Business of the Year category fits perfectly with our ‘development with care’ approach, which puts responsible business practices and the wider environment at the centre of everything we do.

“Banks goes to great lengths to ensure that a range of environmental, social and economic benefits are delivered through our schemes, from new employment and commercial opportunities for local people and companies through to substantial funding for community and environmental improvements.

“This award provides a great opportunity for companies across Northumberland to have the value of their environmentally-focused approach to business seen by a wider audience.”

Northeast Press group advertising manager Dawn Owens said she is overwhelmed by the response to the annual awards.

“I am delighted by the support we are once again receiving from local businesses in both sponsorship and nominations. It really is fantastic.

“These awards would not be the success they are, year after year, without the backing of businesses.”

Deadline for entries is Thursday, October 31, and nominations can be entered online at www.nepress.co.uk/NGAZ/business-awards-2013busi ness-awards-2013/ or using the form below.
