The Quarry pub is undergoing a £237,000 refurbishment thanks to Star Pubs & Bars, Heineken’s pub business, and local operators Carl and Sam Cramman.

The pub will reopen on Friday, July 6, when it will offer food for the first time.

Funds are being spent on a complete overhaul of the exterior and interior, including the installation of full-length windows to bring more light into the pub.

A catering kitchen is being fitted to enable fresh, home-cooked food to be produced, the bar is being renovated, and the toilets replaced. The layout will include a large bar where people can bring dogs, a separate dining area and a snug.

Outside, The Quarry will benefit from a complete redecoration, including new signage and lighting, as well a paved terrace and new patio furniture.

Carl and Sam, who also run the Spring Gardens in North Shields, moved into The Quarry last summer.

Their plans include reinstating the pub quiz and introducing live acoustic music. Live sport will continue to be shown on the pub’s four screens.

Carl said: “I used to be a regular at The Quarry as a friend of mine played for the football team.

“Sam and I are really excited by the refurbishment and the prospect of breathing new life into the pub. The area is crying out for a great quality local.”
