At Alnwick and District Flower Club’s first meeting of the New Year, we were delighted to have Embleton’s Lizzie Harrat as our February demonstrator.
Everything she designed was unusual and attractive and she created them all with great flair.
Her theme was Hope Springs Eternal and a veritable joy of spring it was.
There were seven arrangements. Candlemass, in a green container, depicted new life using eucalyptus, Athena roses, white lilies and roses and Kermit chrysanthemums to pick up the containers colour.
The Garden Border was exceptionally stunning using blue delphiniums, lisianthus, pink tulips, spray roses and freesia.
The third arrangement was A Garden Trug giving the appearance of a just-picked selection of garden flowers. Deep pink roses, delphiniums, yellow broom and lisianthus.
A beautiful swag using broom, roses, lavender tulips and blue freesia included the information on the mechanics to do it ourselves. A second swag using three clay pots also proved a hit as pot plants could be interchanged throughout the summer. In this case she used polyanthus plus hardy greenery.
The final two included The Bird’s Nest, which was stunning with a simple nest made of willow with the flower material all placed as though growing naturally
It included cream ivy, tiny narcissi, blue freesia, a tiny yellow spray rose and tulips, finishing off with a hand-tie of red tulips and green raffia as a thought towards Valentine’s Day.
It was an inspiring, beautiful way to spend an evening with good friends and to be in the company of a talented and charming lady.
The next meeting is a workshop by Christine Ogle from Lavender’s Blueon March 3, at 7pm in at the Costello Centre, Alnwick.New members always welcome.
