Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival Opening Gala: Battleship Potempkin. The Maltings, Berwick, 7pm. Sergei Eisenstein’s landmark film in cinema history. This new restoration is presented with the flamboyant 1926 Edmund Meisel score. It dramatises the mutiny that occurred in 1905 when the crew of the Russian battleship Potemkin rebelled against their officers. Tickets: £7.50, concs £6.50, child £5.

Take part in the Marine Conservation Society’s annual beach clean, with the data going towards a report on the state of marine litter on beaches around Britain. Participants should wear sturdy footwear for walking along the beach and protection from the elements (wind or sun). Equipment will be provided, including gloves and litter-pickers.

Talk at Barter Books: Michael Chaplin – A Voyage Around My Father. Alnwick Station, Wagon Way Road, 7.30pm. In the summer of 2016 Michael Chaplin decided to create a deeply personal book. He set out to discover the old pit villages of South West Durham and to uncover the life of his father. Wine and nibbles afterwards with Michael, who will also be signing copies of his book.
