More than 90 people turned up to take part in a big beach clean-up at Longhoughton, which filled a tractor trailer with rubbish.
The tidy, on Sunday, July 7, was supported by Northumberland County Council and its LOVE Northumberland campaign.
Alongside cleaning up the area, it also educated participants as to how they can get more involved with coastal conservation activities.
Organiser Sally Cook said: “We made a huge difference to a beautiful piece of coastline. It was such a success and such a really friendly, happy atmosphere on the day that I intend to organise some more in the future.
“Thanks goes to the fabulous volunteers, local farmer James Forsyth for supplying the trailer and helping out with his quad bike, the Love Northumberland campaign and the council for supplying bags, gloves and litter-pickers.”
However, the Gazette has been told that the day after the clean-up, the beach was covered in litter again.
