Yellow weather warning for snow and ice issued by the Met Office for parts of Northumberland

Wintry showers and icy stretches are possible overnight from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning and are likely to cause some travel disruption, as the Met Office issue another yellow weather warning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that will affect parts of the North East between the hours of 8pm on Tuesday, February 25 and 10am on Wednesday, February 26.

The Met Office said: “Wintry showers are expected to continue through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning leaving surfaces wet and leading to icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces.

“These showers will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and snow at times, the snow mostly over higher ground.

“Some places are likely to see 1cm to 3cm of snow, mainly above 200m, with 4cm to 8cm possible over the higher ground in northwest England, Wales and west Scotland.”

What to expect:

There is some risk of injury from slips and falls on icy surfaces including roads and pavements.

There will probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Some roads and railways may be affected and longer journey times are possible by road, bus and train services.

Tonight’s weather:

Tonight will see a cold and clear night with some scattered showers, some may be wintry with snow possible. Widespread frost is expected by dawn with minimum temperatures of -2C.

Tomorrow’s weather:

A mix of sunny spells and showers, but perhaps not as cold and windy – maximum temperatures of 4C.
