Rain and hill snow will clear in the afternoon, leaving some sunny spells, especially in the south. However, it will be windy, especially across hills.

Monday evening will remain windy and cold with a frost. There will be plenty of clear spells, with just a few wintry showers, mainly on hills in the west. Snow melt will then refreeze to give some icy patches, with a minimum temperature of 0C.

Tuesday will be less windy than Monday, but will remain cold, thanks to a fresh northwesterly breeze. There will be bright spells, but a few snow showers could make their way across from the west, although it will be mostly dry.

The Met Office outlook for Wednesday to Friday said, “This period looks predominantly cold, with a few snow showers, but some bright spells. Potential for some more general rain or snow to develop at times.”

Is more snow forecast for the rest of winter?

Looking further ahead, the Met Office UK outlook for Friday 28 February to Sunday 8 March explains that the start of this period will be unsettled and often windy, with areas of rain moving east across the UK. This will be interspersed with brighter, showery interludes.

Rain is likely to be heaviest across western areas, with wintry showers in the north. The south will see the best of any more prolonged drier interludes. There is also an increased chance of deep low pressure systems affecting the UK, which will cause large amounts of rainfall and very strong winds.

Temperatures are likely to frequently fluctuate between rather cold and rather mild.

“During any colder interludes, there is likely to be some snow on the high ground of the north,” said the Met Office.

“The weather may become more settled in the southeast at the very end of this period, though remaining unsettled elsewhere.”
