The Met Office forecast for Wednesday, December 18, says it will be another cold day in Northumberland, with mist and freezing fog slowly clearing. Brighter skies are likely by mid-morning, with a maximum of 3C.

The early afternoon will be overcast, though the cloud cover should become less dominant later. Maximum temperature 3C.

Cloud will increase during the evening with outbreaks of rain and strong winds overnight. Maximum temperature 6C.

The Met Office UK outlook until Saturday, December 21, says: “Often wet and windy with periods of occasionally heavy rain or showers.

“Winds may occasionally reach gale force over exposed coasts and hills. Perhaps drier and brighter on Saturday.”

The forecast to Tuesday, December 31 says: “It looks like it will start rather unsettled and possibly windy, with further showers or perhaps some longer spells of rain in places, but also drier brighter interludes.

“There are signs that the weather may become drier and quieter, at least for a time, around Christmas, with increased risk of frost and patchy fog.”
