Northumberland warned to expect 'strong winds' as Met Office issues Yellow warning

Windy weather is expected to batter Northumberland and the wider North East as Met Office forecasters release a Yellow alert.

Families are being warned to batten down the hatches on Friday, February 21 with strong winds of up to 60mph forecast throughout the day.

A Yellow warning, announced by the Met Office today – Wednesday, February 19 – expects that the windy weather will be at its worst between 8am and 8pm and that some disruption to travel could be expected.

The further blustery weather follows Storms Ciara and Dennis, which reaked havoc across the country with high winds and a downpour of rain earlier this month.

Forecast for Northumberland on Friday predicts temperatures between 5°C and 9°C, with the highest winds expected between 12pm and 6pm.

There are separate weather warnings for heavy rain in place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, affecting other locations across the UK.

Met Office forecasters have issued a Yellow warning for wind.
