Met Office issue yellow weather warning of 'heavy rain' across Northumberland as Storm Francis set to hit the UK

Northumberland is in for a wet week as the Met Office forecasters issued a yellow weather warning for rain with Storm Francis hitting the UK.

The alert, announced on Monday, August 24, warns of ‘heavy rain’ throughout Tuesday and early on Wednesday which ‘is expected to result in some flooding and disruption to travel.’

The warning, which affects most of the UK amid Storm Francis, will come into force from Tuesday and run until 6am on Wednesday morning.

While the adverse conditions are set to impact Northumberland, other areas of the North East such as South Tyneside, Sunderland and Hartlepool are less likely to be affected.

Met Office forecasters say that bus and train services are likely to be affected, with journey times taking longer. Potential spray and flooding on roads could also impact travel.

Interruption to power supplies and other services are likely, as is flooding of a few homes and businesses.
