Met Office issue yellow weather warning for heavy rain and say 'flooding is likely'

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in parts of northern England, including Northumberland between the hours of 12pm on Friday, February 28 and 9am on Saturday, February 29.

The Met Office said: “Spells of heavy rain are likely to affect parts of Wales and northern England during the second half of Friday through to Saturday morning.

“Some 15mm to 30mm of rain is likely quite widely in the areas covered by the warning, with 40mm to 60mm possible on the highest ground.

“The heaviest rain is most likely on Friday night before clearing eastwards on Saturday morning.”

On Friday and Saturday the forecast remains unsettled with yellow weather warnings in force for heavy rain in parts of Wales and northern England. The outlook for Northumberland will see and increasingly wet and windy Friday afternoon with hill snow. The rain will clear on Saturday morning, but windy conditions will continue as gales and wintry showers are predicted for Sunday, March 1.

What to expect:

Heavy rain may cause disruptions to bus and train services and probably affected journey times making them take longer.

Spray and flooding on roads is possible and will make driving conditions worse and journey times longer.

Flooding to some homes and businesses is likely.
