Flooding issues in Blyth after day of heavy rain

Police and fire crews have been called out due to flooding issues in Blyth.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the Newcastle Road area, while an alert has been issued for the A189 in both directions at Bebside due to surface water on the road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Motorists are advised to use an alternative route into Blyth avoiding the Newcastle Road area.”

Northumberland County Council posted on its alerts page: ‘We have reports of standing water on our roads due heavy rainfall.

‘Our teams are working to clear as many of the issues as possible.

‘Please drive according to the weather conditions, lights on, slow down, leave more space.’

Blyth Library also had to close early today due to flooding in the area.
