Motorists in particular are being warned over the likelihood of ice on untreated surfaces today.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning (less severe than orange and red) for snow and ice across the country.
The warning reads: “Showers will continue to fall as snow on hills and higher routes and to lower levels inland this morning. With surfaces widely below freezing, ice is also expected to form on untreated surfaces.
“The public should be aware of the expected icy conditions, especially where lying snow exists and over lower-lying areas where rain has fallen, and that this is likely to result in some disruption to transport.
“Widespread icy patches are expected to readily form on untreated surfaces this evening and during Saturday night, especially where snow cover exists or where wintry showers occur.”
