Northumbrian Water has started repairs to a sewage pipe in the centre of Alnwick, which could take up to two weeks to complete.

The repairs have meant that an area of The Cobbles on Market Street have been fenced off, outside Carlo's fish and chip shop and Copperfields café.

Despite today being the start of schools' half-term week, the work is unlikely to impact parking on The Cobbles too heavily as the site is next to the exit from the parking area and there are double yellow lines at the top of the bank anyway.

A spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water said that there was no exact timescale on the repairs, but that it is hoped they will be complete in the next couple of weeks.
