The new McDonald’s in Alnwick officially opened for business earlier today.
The fast-food giant’s new outlet, at Cawledge and adjacent to the A1, started trading at 10.30am and the occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony carried out by the Mayor of Alnwick, Bill Grisdale.
In the video above, by Jane Coltman, you can watch Coun Grisdale learn how to make a Big Mac, struggling with some of the process, and hear from Jason Clark, 18, who was the first customer.
The new drive-thru restaurant, which has created more than 60 jobs, features one of the corporation’s new designs and offer digital menu boards as well as tablet computers on some tables for customers to enjoy while they dine.
It is one of the first McDonald’s in the area to offer customers the option to use either the traditional till services or new self-order kiosks. Once customers have completed their order, they can pay swiftly by card or contactless technology and then go straight to a designated area of the counter to pick up their order.
