The village of Warkworth united this weekend to celebrate all things Magna Carta.
The document was agreed at Runnymede, Surrey, in 1215, and was signed on June 15 between barons of medieval England and King John. Among the key barons was John FitzRobert, described as lord of Warkworth Castle, as well as lord of Alnwick Eustace de Vesci.
Our photographer Jane Coltman was in the village and watched the drama group perform outside St Lawrence’s Church, while in the URC church, there was a facsimile of the ‘Great Charter’ and local schoolchildren drew up their own ‘ancient’ documents.
