WATCH: Lorry recovery after A697 crash

See the recovery operation taking place as a lorry is prepared for removal from the A697 following an accident in north Northumberland yesterday.

The A697 is closed for a stretch in the area today while the load is removed using heavy-lifting equipment.

Early yesterday morning police were informed a lorry had left the road near Thrunton. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident.

In order for the lorry to be recovered and moved from its location safely it is necessary for the road to be closed for around six hours today.

It is shut between the junction with the B6341 at the New Moorhouse crossroads and the junction with the B6341 at the Bridge of Aln Pub crossroads.

A diversion is in place. Motorists heading south will turn off at the Bridge of Aln and follow the road to the B6341 and turn right going past Edlingham before rejoineing the A697 at New Moor House. Motorists travelling north will follow the same route in reverse.

However, HGV drivers are advised that he route is not suitable for larger vehicles and are asked to use the A1.

Motor patrols officers will be in the area to ensure traffic disruption is kept to a minimum.
