Hundreds gather at Amble to watch search and rescue demonstration
Crowds flocked to Amble today to show their support for the town’s RNLI station during their annual lifeboat day but this year’s event was made all the more poignant as it was the final display at Amble by the iconic yellow Sea King helicopter.
The Government has awarded a £1.6bn search and rescue contract to Bristow Helicopters who will replace the current Sea King helicopters with a new fleet of
Sikorksy S92 and AgustaWestland 189 helicopters.
The deal also spells the end for search and rescue operations from RAF Boulmer. The new helicopters will be based at Glasgow’s Prestwick Airport and Humberside Airport,
Do you have a special memory of the Sea Kings based at RAF Boulmer? If so we would love to hear from you.
