Born in 1916, the south Londoner, who only left the Big Smoke when she evacuated to the countryside for two weeks during the war before heading back because she didn’t like the quiet, moved to north Northumberland in 2013 as her daughter Sheila lives in Shilbottle. She was in Ravensmount until its closure, when she moved to Hillcrest.

Born in New Cross, near Millwall, south London, 100-year-old Alice Aubrey worked until she was 70 as a book-keeper.

She married ‘the love of her life’ Fred in 1938 and had daughters Sheila and Linda. Fred died at the age of just 44 in 1958 and she later married Bill, who died in 2005. She has five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alice, who has a wicked sense of humour, is enjoying good health, apart from some hearing loss, having always led an active life. She was a keen and frequent dancer, going to classes into her 90s, and still goes to the bingo in Shilbottle.
