ROADS across north Northumberland are set to be repaired over the next few months.
Surface dressing works will be carried out between May and August on 39 miles of carriageway including roads in Alnwick, Hadston, Longframlington and Rothbury as part of the county council’s annual surface dressing programme.
The work involves applying hot tar to the road surface followed immediately by chippings. The chippings are rolled into the road surface and excess chips are then removed by a mechanical road sweeper.
Advance signs warning of the surface dressing works will be in place at the affected locations several days before the work takes place. During the work, motorists should expect minor delays but the council said that these will be kept to a minimum.
Road users are reminded to take extra care and follow the advisory speed limit signs on the recently surface dressed roads until essential road sweeping has taken place.
