For the November meeting of Warkworth WI, president Serena had sent her apologies so committee member Marion welcomed 34 members and one visitor.

The competition for ‘something new from something old’ was won by Pat Dodd and the birthday prize was awarded to Margaret Wilkinson.

Members were reminded that the December meeting would be the Christmas party which would be catered so members only needed to bring cutlery and crockery.

The usual hamper raffle would take place with members receiving a ticket in return for an item for the hamper.

Last year enough contributions were made to enable four hampers to be made and won.

A lovely card was read out from a long-standing member Fay Charlton who has resigned because of a move to Barnard Castle.

Helen Wilson announced that a staggering 84 shoe boxes had been filled for the Christmas appeal and thanked everyone who had helped.

Our speaker for the evening was Julie Porksen who gave an engaging and thought-provoking talk on the work that she had done with various women’s groups in a variety of countries, including Peru, Bangladesh and the Yemen.

The next meeting will be on December 2, for the Christmas party and the fun competition provided by the committee will be ‘guess the member’ from a picture of them as a young child.
